No Shampoo – Baking Soda & Vinegar
On January 1st I decided I wasn’t going to wash my hair with shampoo/conditioner anymore. The date I decided is merely a coincidence – this isn’t a new year resolution! I had been pondering it for some time and decided to take the dive.
For a long while I thought I wasn’t going to be able to do it because I have dyed hair (finding this hard to let go of) but from reading it seems perfectly ok. I am seriously considering growing out my dye now because I want to get rid of all chemicals, but next week am first going to try out some henna. Curiosity more than anything as I haven’t done henna properly and now I know I must try
.
Anyway this is how my hair looks after baking soda/vinegar. Its the second time in the past 2 weeks I have used it and haven’t used anything else.
I am really happy with it – it feels lovely, although getting used to no smell is weird. Also the first time I used baking soda and vinegar it felt greasy but didn’t look it. This time it feels fantastic!
Hopefully I will not have to use this for very long – but once a week is all I am going to do for now.
I will update this week with the henna experiment

i have also tried this and love it. i am curious, i can’t find any reviews for your fat freedom diet program. i really am looking for a lifestyle change, but without some sort of idea what this “diet” even entails, i am a little leary. some insight please.
Hi Kessa,
I am loving my hair! Looking forward to hennaing it tomorrow but a little apprehensive. Do you not shampoo now or did you just try the baking soda/vinegar?
As for my diet program – it is about lifestyle changes as opposed to just diet and exercise. The diet entaiils quite a dramatic change in terms of what you are consuming, not only for losing weight but also for health and well being. The diet won’t numb you like a conventional diet and this can be the hardest part of changing eating habits. I think some people would need to change one aspect at a time (you will still reap benefits this way and lose weight, but it just won’t be as dramatic as completely changing). I think thats an excellent way to take it on board just because then you can really have a go at changing habits and at a pace that is suitable to you when you are ready – which is key in any lifestyle change.
Some people of course are able to change their diet completely without a problem.
This diet basically strips down our comforts – you won’t get emotional comfort from this diet only nutritional. This diet is also about self-awareness.
As for the other aspects they should be quite easily incorporated into the day for most people.|
I don’t know if that answers your questions but if you have anymore feel free to email me at kelly@yourfatfreedom.com.
Hi there,
Just came across your blog and I’m very interested to know about your baking soda/vinegar hair care. I’ve read about it but discounted it for me because I have incredibly long hair (to my knees). Your pictures look like you have long hair, too. I have been afraid to go without conditioner because it detangles my hair after washing. Was it hard to comb through your hair when only conditioning with vinegar? I’d love to hear your experience!
Hi there,
Um this is going to be a vague reply from what I remember ad a few months later I cut all my hair off to get rid of the dye.
I made sure I combed my hair before washing. My hair was really prone to knotting because I had dyed it blonde and then later on red so it took a beating. I think my hair was more manageable when I got rid of shampoo than before though. Also the baking soda really dries your hair out and after doing more reading about it I never really used it again. The vinegar did help I believe though to comb through.
I ended up cutting my hair off because I wanted to completely natural again and this was after 8 months I think of no shampoo. My hair was just coming out of being super greasy I believe.
Hope that helps a little. It’s been a good while since I used shampoo now…over 1 and a half years and my hair is growing back. It’s a little long (I can put it in a pony) and it doesn’t get knotty at all at the moment which is nice. I will have to see how it gets once it is longer though
